This course aims to provide the training for candidates to launch and take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat in emergency situations, in accordance with Regulation VI/2, paragraph 1 and Section A-VI/2, paragraphs 1 to 4 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended.
The objective of the course is to train the candidate to be competent to operate life-saving appliances and safely take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during or after launch.
The course consists of theory and practical learning.
Part of the outcome of the course is that the candidate will be able to operate a survival craft engine and manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship, know the correct use of all locating devices, including communication and signaling apparatus and pyrotechnics, and how to apply and assist first aid to survivors.

This course is a combination of classroom theory sessions and practical boat operation. The course aims to provide training the candidate to be competent to handle and take charge of a fast rescue boat in search and rescue operations during or after launch in adverse weather and sea conditions.
The course is in compliance with Regulation VI/2, paragraph 2 and Section A-VI/2, paragraphs 7 to 10 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended.
On completion of the course, the trainees will be competent to prevent and manage a capsized rescue boat, recover a casualty from the water and transfer to a rescue helicopter, a ship or place of safety, and understand the construction, maintenance, repair and outfitting of fast rescue boat.
